SNOW!

Dear children,

During this season of winter, there is snowing which occurs in some countries like Europe and America. This is because these countries experience the 4 seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. There is no snow in Singapore because Singapore does not have 4 seasons. It has a hot weather almost the whole year, except in December, in which there will be lots of rain.

Here are some fun websites in which you can make snow flakes, learn about how snow comes about, stories about snow and many other fun activities:

http://snowflakes.barkleyus.com

http://webtech.kennesaw.edu/jcheek3/snow.htm

Below is a video in which you can see how snow can bring about accidents on the road. This is because snow makes the road slippery and will cause the drivers to lose control of their cars easily.

Here is a cartoon on snow for all of you to enjoy. Happy holidays!

If you want to experience snow in Singapore, probably you can ask your parents to bring you to Snow City in Jurong East. You can have a feel of how snow is like over there and play with the snow.

Hooves

Dear children,

We learnt about hooves in our big book, 'Whose hooves?'. Here are some interesting questions and answers about hooves:

Q) What are hooves of a horse made of?
A) Hooves are made of material similar to the human fingernail. However it is much thicker and much stronger.

Q) Why do cows have hooves?
A) Hooves are like shoes for them. They need a hard support for their feet as they walk on hard, muddy and rough surfaces.

Here are some videos on them:

The subtraction song

If you see 2 numbers
And you don’t know about them.
There’s one way
where you can scare them.

Then look between them,
You might find the minus sign, minus sign!
A single line that means take away.
The second number from the first number.
The minus sign!
That’s Subtraction, so easy.
The minus sign!
Take away from one another and see what means.
The minus sign!
That’s Subtraction, so easy.
The minus sign!
Take away from one another and see what means!

Our class writing - A birthday party

Today our class had a wonderful birthday party in our classroom. We decorated our class whiteboard with colourful balloons. Some were big while some were small. Then we wore our party hats. Our teacher, Miss Lee, bought two pandan cakes and put them on a table. She put two candles on the cake and lighted the candles. Shashank, Quan Kai and Shameera came up to the front. We sang the birthday song for them loudly. They blew out the candles with one big puff. Miss Lee gave them each a birthday card. She cut the cake into many slices and we ate the cakes happily. We also ate the snacks that we had brought. It was an exciting party. We enjoyed ourselves and we were as happy as a lark.

Interesting facts about frogs

Do frogs have teeth?

Actually, yes! But not like in this silly picture!
Most frogs do in fact have teeth of a sort.
They have a ridge of very small cone teeth around the upper edge of the jaw. These are called Maxillary Teeth.
Frogs often also have what are called Vomerine Teeth on the roof of their mouth.
They don't have anything that could be called teeth on their lower jaw, so they usually swallow their food whole. The so-called "teeth" are mainly used to hold the prey and keep it in place till they can get a good grip on it and squash their eyeballs down to swallow their meal.
Toads, however, do NOT have any teeth.

Can frogs hear?

Frogs can hear using big round ears on the sides of their head called a tympanum. Tympanum means drum. On some frogs, the ear is very hard to see!
Ever wonder how frogs that can get so LOUD manage not to hurt their own ears? Some frogs make so much noise that they can be heard for miles! How do they keep from blowing out their own eardrums?
Well, actually, frogs have special ears that are connected to their lungs. When they hear noises, not only does the eardrum vibrate, but the lung does too! Scientists think that this special pressure system is what keeps frogs from hurting themselves with their noisy calls!

Visitng the dentist

Dear children,

After the dental talk by our school nurse, Miss Lim, on Friday, we learn about the importance of keeping our teeth clean and healthy. We also read a story on 'Marty visiting the dentist'.

Here is the web address:
http://www.ada.org/public/games/marty.asp

You may view the story again when you are free at home.

Given below is another web address which consists of puzzles and games relating to dental health. Please make sure you have completed your homework and have asked your parents for permission before playing the games.

Introduction

Dear children,

Welcome to our class blog! It is a website specially set up for you and your parents. I have put up a link to our class's resource website which is placed at the right hand side of the blog. Just click on the 'pencil' and you will be able to see access the resource website.

On our class blog, I will put up announcements for the class, updates on the resource website, interesting video clips, photographs of our class activities and many more. Do visit the blog at least once a week. I will put up a chat box at the side for you to leave messages for your classmates if you want to. Please remember not to say bad things about your friends in the chat box.

On our resource website, I will put up educational websites, worksheets, PowerPoint slides under the 3 different folders: English, Mathematics and Others. You may ask your parents for help at home if you do not know what to do.

Lastly, hope all of you will have an enjoyable time visiting our class blog and resource website.
